Title :
Space potential versus electric field: which is right for ADSS?
Abstract :
Current industrial practice locates all dielectric self-supporting cable (ADSS) in a high voltage environment according to a recommended level of space potential. However, electrical engineers agree that electric field-the derivative of space potential with respect to position-is the driver of electrical activity. Using a series of diagrams based on "Eddie Electron", attempts to demonstrate these ideas are given by beginning with the basic concept of electric fields between simple capacitor plates and ending with space potentials and electric fields directly on ADSS near a high voltage tower. Eddie never answers the question but wants the audience to think about it.
