Abstract :
There is international momentum by regulatory bodies to adopt electric and magnetic field safety exposure standards from 0 to 3 kHz. A draft standard by the IEEE International Committee on Electromagnetic Safety (ICES) is discussed and compared with the standard by the International Commission on Non-ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP). The draft IEEE ICES standard establishes limits at 50/60 Hz that are greater than the ICNIRP standard. The ICES limits are justified through well-documented principles and experimental data.
