Abstract :
Ontologies are the knowledge repositories that enable meaningful inter-agent communication in semantic web frameworks. To support the huge number of services that will be developed in the semantic web, ontologies are growing larger and larger to accommodate as much knowledge as possible. Accordingly, the process of maintenance, reuse, reasoning and integration of ontology becomes very computationally extensive. Instead, it is necessary to provide small and useful module of these ontologies so that the same tasks can be performed as if the whole ontology is being used. In this work we present a novel algorithm for efficiently generating ontology module according to the user query. Unlike the traditional method, the optimized method will "chip off a part of knowledge from the big ontology according to semantic query and only use this knowledge for reasoning. We implemented the algorithm by a framework for knowledge management system and explain it is very useful in practice.
