Abstract
Circuit techniques are presented which protect low noise microwave bipolar transistors from damage caused by overloading signals. These include protection diodes across the emitter-base junction, diode limiters and stage output limiting. Circuit transient response control is shown to be important. The combination of these techniques has been demonstrated to protect against damage for signals up to +26dBm.
