Abstract
There is widespread potential for generating modest amounts of hydroelectric power in the United Kingdom water industry, and there is also some opportunity in the drainage and sewage treatment industries. This paper identifies some of the potential sources of power and reviews some of the technical issues involved in developing mini-hydro power at water treatment plants. Factors influencing economic viability are considered, and the regulations applying to new plants are discussed.
