Abstract
In this paper, a radial-dependent dispersive FDTD method is developed to model metamaterials based on coordinate transformation. Such artificial materials have been applied in developing electromagnetic cloaking devices, plane wave concentrators and wave polarization rotators. By using the time-domain numerical technique, the transient response and operational bandwidth of the proposed metamaterials is evaluated. It is demonstrated, for example, that the perfect "invisibility" from electromagnetic cloaks is only available for lossless metamaterials and within an extremely narrow frequency band.
