Abstract :
Channel capacities of M-ary differential phase shift keying (DPSK) and M-ary adjacent D2PSK on the time-selective Rician fading channels are analyzed, using the probability distribution factors (PDF´s) of the first-order and second-order phase errors in the output of the detectors. The analyses are carried out for the systems with hard decision and soft decision. It is found that in terms of channel capacities for both DPSK and D2PSK with soft decision and M⇒∞, the penalty for the slow Rayleigh fading channel compared with the AWGN channel is about 4.8 dB for a high SNR
