Abstract
Technical communication has long advocated the importance of the customer. When technical communication instructors train engineering students to focus on audiences´ needs, backgrounds, abilities, and interests before designing a document or giving a presentation, instructors are emphasizing the customer. Thus, the audience analysis skill taught in the communication classroom helps engineers to prepare for the highly competitive, restructed workplace
