Abstract :
A semiconductor saturable absorber mirror (SESAM) is used as an end mirror in a solid state microchip laser cavity to generate Q-switched pulses of 22 ps duration. A numerical model based on the rate equations is used to predict the output of such a laser based on various parameters, such as cavity length and SESAM properties, and potential designs are constructed and tested.
