Abstract
Radio systems have been extensively used in the UK trunk network for Transmission of broadcast TV and telephony on intercity routes. With the advent of new broadband services such as visual conferencing from customers´ premises and the continuing demand for private data and telephony circuits, the use of point-to-point radio systems, using portable equipment, in the 27.5 to 29.5 GHz band for shorter hops in the local distribution network has been considered for speedy provision of customer-to-exchange broadband connections. For transmission of video signals both digital (PSK) and analogue modulation (pulse frequency modulation) methods are considered for different circumstances. Frequency shift keying is attractive for transmission of data at low rates.
