Abstract
We propose a discrete Maxwell equation (DME) method for the rapid analysis of one-dimensional multi-layered structures. The DME method is based on a strict discretization procedure for Maxwellpsilas equations, where the average permittivity and permeability have been used and the spatial dispersion of the periodic structures has been considered in details. The DME method makes use of very sparse grids in the electromagnetic simulations and greatly reduce the computational time compared to the normal simulation methods. The DME approach is especially important to the one-dimensional metamaterial design.
