Abstract

Some architectural issues related to the geographical information system CARTECH are presented and discussed. The system is based on an extension of the relational model. We focus our attention on the interactions among the different level of abstraction of the system. In particular we describe the relations between the logical data model and the underlying data structure used for its physical representation. The goal is the realization of a set of powerful and flexible operators for the management of geometrical-spatial data, in order to obtain a more efficient cooperation among the different modules of the system, accordingly to the adopted “system integration” approach
