Abstract :
Hydrogen trapped at numerous hydroxyl defects in quartz lattice serves to compensate the electron excess defects of trivalent aluminum during irradiation. We have measured near infrared (region 3100-3700 cm -1) absorption in optical samples of quartz at 77 K in as-grown crystals and upon electron irradiation at 77 K before and after 300 K-irradiation. The spectral changes have been utilized to measure the concentration of various Al-related defect centers in quartz
