Due to the hyperbranched structures and inner polar core, the hyperbranched polymer can be used as phase-transfer agent to treat water-soluble dye wastewater. In this paper, a novel broom hyperbranched organic substance R12-1.0G with long-chain alkyl on one end and low-branched structure on the other end was synthesized by Michael addition reaction of dodecylamine with methyl acrylate, followed by amidation condensation reaction with ethylenediamine. The structure of the product was characterized by combining elemental analysis, 1H-NMR spectroscopy and Fourier-transform IR spectroscopy. Meanwhile, using its self-assembly with lauric acid by electrostatic force as host molecule and using the Congo red as guest molecule, the phase transfer behavior of Congo red was studied in our work. The results show that the novel broom hyperbranched molecules can be attractive candidates for phase-transfer carriers between water and organic media.
