Abstract
The MLS provides the aircraft with its full position in relation to the runway by means of an azimuth angle, an elevation angle and distance. The angle data are coded in accordance with the principle of "time reference scanning beam" and radiated by phased array antennas. TH. CSF has developed the "MLS 800" system, suited to small airports and fully compliant with ICAO standards. This sytem is undergoing flight tests; the results conform with recommendations and standards of ICAO. THOMSON.CSF is presently developing a MLS suitable for large airports both in its guiding accuracy and integrity. It includes a precision DME (DME-P).
