Abstract
This paper summarizes work in applying fuzzy systems to reactive power compensation in distribution feeders, and offers a general formulation to the problem of reactive power compensation in primary distribution feeders with uniformly distributed load using fuzzy set theory. The formulation is generally enough to apply to any type of load on the feeder. The formulation is given as a maximization of the per unit active power loss reduction as a function of the size and location of the capacitor banks. At the end of the paper, we offer some recommendations for future research.
