Abstract
With the widespread use of geographic information system in transportation research and management, GIS-T (GIS for transportation) becomes one of the most important and growing GIS applications. In this paper, a new GIS-T data model is presented for urban traffic incidents management. Based on object-oriented method and Unified Modeling Language (UML), the proposed model is built by extending and amending ArcGIS transportation data model (UNETRANS). In the meantime, in view of the limitations of current linear reference system used in transportation application, an urban known buildings based linear reference system (UKBLRS) is developed. UKBLRS is very easy to be understood by traffic engineers and common travelers, and it will increase the utility value of linear reference system in transportation system. With UKBLRS, the proposed data model can be used effectively in urban traffic incidents management system.
