Abstract :
Summary form only given. In addition to traditional applications, which have contributed to the popularity of the Internet, we have assisted since a few years ago in the deployment of new multimedia applications having strict temporal constraints. Actually, the Internet cannot offer any quality of service guarantees to satisfy these requirements. Many approaches have been proposed by the IETF in order to improve the overall performance of the Internet such as IntServ, DiffServ and MPLS. We study and evaluate the MPLS support of differentiated services, a promising approach to improve considerably the quality of service. The setting up of a tentative platform, supporting DiffServ and MPLS, permitted us to achieve experimental tests in order to put in evidence contributions of this approach.
