Abstract :
A predistorter is described, which linearizes the travelling wave tube amplifier of a 140 Mbit/s 16 QAM digital radio system. After discussing the nonlinear behaviour of the TWT, the predistortion circuit is explained. Measurement results show the nonlinear compensation capability of the predistorter. In the 16 QAM radio system average output power and efficiency can be increased significantly without degradation of the bit error performance.
