Abstract :
Ground clutter has significant effect on height of burst (HOB) accuracy of radio proximity fuzes. Different terrains have different back scattering coefficient that vary with grazing angles and hence will result in different radar cross sections. Therefore it is necessary to analyze the effect of different terrains at different grazing angles on the HOB accuracy of radio proximity fuze. In this paper, two mathematical models of land clutter are analyzed at different grazing angles and effect of land clutter on HOB accuracy of radio fuze is studied. For this analysis, it is assumed that the radio fuze uses frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) system to determine target range. Simulation of terminal phase of the radio fuze is done at two grazing angles for two different terrains and its height above the ground is measured for comparison. Finally FMCW parameters are estimated and simulation results in the form of target range are compared with the numerical calculations for the comparison.
