Abstract
The field and power distribution in a closed microwave system are calculated using a variational principle and three-dimensional finite elements. The system may contain linear, lossy, arbitrarily shaped, isotropic and inhomogeneous materials. The accuracy is tested on an example which can be solved analytically. Besides some nontrivial three-dimensional examples are given.
