Abstract :
A compact slotted bowtie patch antenna for 3G system is demonstrated. A L-shape slotted bowtie design is proposed based on its wide bandwidth characteristics, small size and light weight properties. Our results indicate that a wider bandwidth can be easily achieved by adjusting the slot dimension and the flare angle of the bowtie antenna. In addition, good VSWR and impedance matching can be obtained by choosing a proper feed location. This technique has increased the bandwidth by four times that of a normal conventional microstrip antenna. The proposed antenna design with simulation and experimental results are also presented. The performance comparison result between a normal bowtie and a slotted bowtie patch antenna is also included.
