Abstract
This paper presents a tool called RayTracer which provides traceability services to the process of developing software. Advanced software engineering requires traceability services which satisfy the demands of software data, tools, and teams. Raytheon developed RayTracer to meet these needs and has applied it to 16 projects over the last five years. The paper first describes the benefits and needs of traceability when applied to software engineering, and then explains the concepts and components of RayTracer which satisfy these needs. Finally, we conclude with our experiences in using RayTracer which have resulted in some important enhancements
