Abstract
The three-dimensional finite difference scheme is used to solve Maxwell´s equations in closed microwave systems. A boundary condition at an abrupt dielectric interface and a modal absorbing boundary condition for waveguides are presented. The calculation of the sinusoidal steady-state amplitude and phase of the electromagnetic (EM) field, and the derivation of the power-density are discussed. The method is tested on some canonical examples which can be solved analytically. Finally some practical three-dimensional applications are given.
