  • Abstract
The limitations that can be anticipated in using commercially available prediction tools are presented, and some insights are given for cellular engineers in the selection of a prediction tool. RF measured data are compared against predicted signal levels calculated using the CRC (Communication Research Centre, Ottawa) program and those determined using a privately owned prediction tool. Standard deviation and mean error are calculated for predicted signal levels compared to actual measurements in an urban environment. The effect of terrain database inaccuracies on predicted RF signal levels calculated for the 150- and 800-MHz bands are presented. Two databases are studied and compared to manually digitized 1:50,000 maps
