Abstract
The storage hierarchy plays a major role in the price and performance of high-end enterprise servers. In fact, the total price of a high-end server´s hardware is dominated by its memory and disk configuration. Similarly, the performance is significantly influenced by the design and configuration of the server´s memory and disk subsystems. Given these realities, the design and development of future server systems requires special attention to the storage subsystem. The paper describes a methodology that can be applied to optimize the disk size and RAID type used in key high-end server workloads
