The following topics were dealt with: characteristics of users of medical innovations; biomedical IT from digital dawn to the next-generation Internet; Euromed (the final chapter or a new beginning?); WWW-based service for automated interpretation of diagnostic images; the AIDI-Heart project; some methodological issues in telemedicine (systems, modelling and evaluation); evaluation of telemedical services; 3DHeartView (3D angiographical modelling); decision trees as a CIM tool in nursing education; the global health network in the 21st Century (telehealth, home care, genetics, counter-bioterrorism, security and privacy of information); remote brain image segmentation; integrating DICOM medical images into Virtual Medical Worlds; decision support systems for medical diagnosis; establishing a Virtual Medical Worlds community; HealthLine (integrated information provision to telemedicine networks); using Web technologies and meta-computing to visualize a simplified simulation model of tumour growth in vitro; hybrid signal processing technologies for next-generation wireless telemedicine systems; business aspects of trusted third-party services in Europe; DIMEDAS (a Web-based cardiology medical information system); and multi-modal presentation in virtual telemedical environments
