Euromed-the final chapter or a new beginning?

The EC ISIS ´95 Euromed project has now completed its three-year duration. It has proposed a framework to establish a complete advanced medical society using Web-based telemedicine called ITIS (International Telemedical Information Society). Euromed has also spawned a number of collaborative ventures, such as the ITIS conference, the Journal of ITIS Letters and the VMW (Virtual Medical Worlds) magazine. One of the major achievements of the Euromed project was to propose a standard to integrate the diverse range of telemedical technologies and applications. This standard is called Virtual Medical Worlds (VMW). The Euromed project is now looking to move to the next stage of development: the implementation and establishment of a pilot (testbed) society where all the related techniques, applications and technologies can be installed and observed
