Abstract :
This paper describes characteristics of the handset with transmit and receive diversity. A 2nd antenna was added to the existing commercial handset. QUALCOMM´s MSM6500 chip was used for receive diversity, and the DiversityPlus™ technique of Magnolia Broadband, Inc., was used for transmit diversity. The test result of receive diversity was 4.1 dB SINR gain and 35% forward link traffic throughput gain. In the case of transmit diversity, there was 3.7-4.8 dB transmit power gain and 19% reverse link traffic throughput gain.
