Abstract :
This paper describes characteristics of the handset with transmit and receive diversity. A 2nd antenna was added to the existing commercial handset. QUALCOMM´s MSM6500 chip was used for receive diversity, and the DiversityPlus technique of Magnolia Broadband, Inc., was used for transmit diversity. The test result of receive diversity was 4.1 dB SINR gain and 35% forward link traffic throughput gain. In the case of transmit diversity, there was 3.7-4.8 dB transmit power gain and 19% reverse link traffic throughput gain.
