Abstract :
This project is concentrated on the design of encoder and decoder modules for a new developed spectral amplitude coding (SAC) of optical code division multiple access (OCDMA) system called modified double weight (MDW) code. The parallel and serial configurations of encoder and decoder modules have been designed and the performances of both systems are studied. For a system modulated at 622 Mbps with the LED output power of 8 dBm, the parallel configuration gave a lower BER of 1.22 × 10-10 and 5.53 × 10-9 for a longer distance of 26 km for channel 1 and channel 2 respectively. However, for the serial configuration the maximum transmission distance is 12 km with BER of 2.33 × 10-10 and 6.45 × 10-10 for channel 1 and channel 2 respectively. Nevertheless, the serial configuration support a higher bit rate of 1.5 Gbps compared to 1 Gbps supported by parallel configuration.
