Abstract :
This paper describes the use of stationary functionals, written in terms of complex phasor high frequency fields, to set up finite element schemes for solving electromagnetic problems associated with cavities or waveguides loaded with lossy or active material. Attention is focussed upon problems with truly three-dimensional geometry. It is described how scattering parameters of objects within waveguide may be obtained. Generalisation of the method in terms of Lapace-transformed variables and for anisotropic materials is discussed.
