Abstract
In this paper, the thermal characteristics of a motor are researched. The heating and cooling processes of the stator winding are analyzed, and the temperature rise of the stator winding carrying steady currents as under load current, rated load current and over load current are tested. By comparing the test results with the theory, a satisfactory thermal characteristics model of the motor is obtained. The findings may provide some references for design and selection as well as the regulation of trip settings of thermal protective relays. Furthermore, the applicability of the GB1497-85 standard is also discussed in this paper
