Abstract
In this paper we consider a non-intrusive link characteristics estimation scheme for IEEE 802.11 based wireless LANs. We provide analytical model for the evaluation of bandwidth and data latency of a wireless link. The model is validated against simulation. The method takes into account the effect of medium contention, channel fading and interference, which influence the link bandwidth and latency. The proposed estimation scheme will serve as a basis for admission control and rate control of competing flows sharing the network.
