Abstract :
End-to-end measurement is applied in a multihoming network to find the optimum path for a particular destination. More measurements leads to more accurate network evaluations and fewer transmissions to failed links, but occupies more multihoming equipment resources by using extra packets for end-to-end measurement, causing heavier network traffic. Therefore, a trade-off exists between timely measurement and resource usage. This study proposes a per-connection timely end-to-end measurement approach, called self-detected measurement (SDM), which consumes few resources, and demonstrates it to be effective in keeping away from outage path in an emulation environment.
