Abstract
In this study a complete mechanical sensorless small-scale, fixed-pitch variable speed, wind energy conversion system is implemented that uses a permanent magnet synchronous generator with RLC filter, that is controlled using direct torque control with space vector modulation. Mathematical models of the system are derived and presented. The system is simulated in VHDL-AMS using Mentor Graphics System Vision as well as MATLAB Simulink and results are presented. A gain scheduling algorithm is designed for stable operation across the entire operating range. The system is then implemented on a laboratory setup and results are presented.
