Abstract
The paper is a comprehensive description of the modernization project and how the equipment and process had been tailored to maximize the use of waste derived fuel. Giant Cement is a company who has made the use of waste derived fuel a major part of the overall business strategy. The use of energy from waste derived fuel makes a lot of sense in an energy intensive industry such as cement, knowing that the "by-product", being the ashes, can be fully integrated into the clinker minerals and thereby the final product. As realized by most cement producers who have or are using waste derived fuel, whether hazardous or non-hazardous, there is a price tag associated which need to be part of the business model. Also, it requires that all levels of the organization, within the company, buy into the concept.
