  • Abstract
    We design a VM resource management framework, called vGreenNet, which increases the energy efficiency of data centers by co-locating throughput-sensitive batch jobs with latency-sensitive services, while managing interference at both CPU and network levels. Our implementation of vGreenNet is on a test bed of state of the art servers and switches emulating a data center cluster. The results show that vGreenNet gets 35% better energy efficiency than oracle versions of state-of-the-art policies, and 70% higher than today´s practice in data centers on per server basis. In an oversubscribed network, vGreenNet saves 44% energy as compared to the state-of-the-art.
