Abstract
From a standpoint of effective torque transmission, the direct drive motor (DDM) is advantageous over conventional AC servomotors because it does not require a reduction gear. The paper presents autonomous torque ripple compensation of the DDM with a permanent magnet rotor by using a software-implemented torque observer. The torque observer is also applicable to an estimation of equivalent moment of inertia of the load. The proposed algorithm has been verified by experiments
