Abstract :
Unreasonable energy consumption structure is the main reason of atmospheric pollution in China. Global warming is also closely related to energy utilization. Therefore it is very necessary to develop clean and renewable energy resources. Hydroelectric power is the only renewable energy which is clean and can be developed on a large scale among current conventional sources of energy. Hydroelectric power is also the renewable energy with highest efficiency and lowest cost. Hydroelectric power development is typical low-carbon economy which can reduce emission of greenhouse gases and air pollutants and have significant effect on tackling global warming and atmospheric environment protection. Hydropower should be developed vigorously in China for hydropower is rich with a huge potential for development.
