Abstract
The operation by which linemen enter a strong electric field to change damaged insulators (with o resistance) along a tension insulator string in 220 kV lines has the advantage of simple operation and high efficiency. When linemen enter an electric field along the insulator string, it is in the movement condition. The working positions vary with the position of the damaged insulators. It is very important for safe operation to know the discharge characteristics of various composite gaps in this operation. The authors have measured the discharge characteristics of composite gaps and their results are introduced in this paper
