Abstract :
A foundation built on soft clay, silty clay with sludgy, reinforced with precast concrete piles (PCP) is designed, and studied using a finite element analysis program, Phase2. The soil profile used for the design is representative of a Dalian soft clay profile, involving a more or less normally consolidated soil, with a strength and stiffness that varies linearly with depth. Such a profile is typical of the ground conditions in the Dalian coastal region. The numerical predictions address the issues of pile settlement due to the multipurpose utility tunnels or sewerage culvert load, absolute vertical displacement and strength reduction factor (SRF).
