Abstract
This study uses SMS-2D unsteady flow model to analyze BeiNan River on the downstream of ChihShang Bridge in different return flood peak flow, then Plaxis-2D finite element model using simulated water level and stream velocity as lateral thrust to investigate pier resistance due to bow wave around the bridge pier. Further, based on the river characteristics and bridge stability of coupling induced by bow wave, the topic of this study is to evaluate closure bridge phase diagram (CBPD) for ChihShang bridge as case study. These coupling SMS and Plaxis 2D models can achieve reliable flow forecast, thus, providing reliable information and references for bridge engineers.
