Abstract
A cluster management tool is needed for monitoring and managing cluster systems or cluster DBMSs. The cluster system management tools have been extensively studied by a couple of research groups, whereas the design of cluster DBMS management tools is still in the early stages. In this paper, we design and implement a high-availability cluster management tool, called HACM, that monitors the status of the nodes in a cluster DBMS, as well as the status of the various DBMS instances at a given node. HACM enables users to visualize a single virtual system image and provides them with the status of all of the nodes and resources in a system by means of a graphical user interface (GUI). In addition, when combined with a load balancer, HACM can increase the performance of a cluster DBMS by overcoming the limitations associated with existing parallel DBMSs
