Abstract :
Two new topologies for high-current bipolar correction-magnet power supplies are presented. They are developed from the popular full-bridge zero-voltage-switched PWM DC-DC converter. Both topologies have two distinct modes of operation. At light loads, the load current is controlled by the secondary side rectifier. At heavy loads, the magnitude and the polarity of the load current are separately controlled by the PWM inverter and the rectifier, respectively. The first topology has only a switching regulator. The second topology is a hybrid concept that combines a switching power supply and a linear regulator. The new topologies have higher efficiency than the existing switched-mode configurations, low-noise comparable to the conventional linear power supplies, and smooth zero-crossing of the load current
