Abstract :
The paper describes the experimental receiving system which operates at 11.6 and 10.7GHz to monitor transhorizon signa1 levels over two paths across the English Channel (La Manche). The structure of the receiver is described and the automatic/remote operation procedures are given. Estimated cumulative transmission losses are also given to permit the positioning of the 80dB dynamic rannge of the receivers. It is shown that considering the level of signals received for paths up to about 200km and antennas of less than 1 metre, X band voice and data communications can be contemplated.
