Abstract :
The effect of influent for start-up of an ANAMMOX reactor was investigated under the concentration of dissolved oxygen (DO), which was not controlled, and low concentration of substrate conditions. In the 8L up flow anaerobic biofilm reactor, only 10g ANAMMOX sludge was added. The results show that the nitrogen removal rate increased from 0.23 kg/(m3·d) to 10.58 kg/(m3·d) by increasing the nitrogen load rate after 180d, if the HRT was reduced to 0.6h. During the rapid increase of the nitrogen load rate, the nitrogen removal rate (volume load of nitrogen) increased by an average rate of 0.78 kg/(m3·d), accordingly. It suggested that synchronously direct inoculation of a small amount of ANAMMOX sludge in the rector can quickly start the ANAMMOX reactor. Moreover, during the start-up process, it decreased marked the inoculation time due to selecting strain, compared with other start-up experiments, which use a big amount of common sludge for inoculation.
