Abstract
Information Mapping is a system for hierarchical spatial arrangement and organization of text to enhance readability. The process has been applied to a wide variety of documents. It enables one to present information by function, get to the point quickly, write for the reader, address the reader´s need to scan, and present information in modular units. A general explanation of the Information Mapping format is given. Specific styles in Word, PageMaker, and QuarkXPress that facilitate using mapping are discussed. Styles can free writers from dealing with the format mechanics of mapping
