Abstract :
The design of piled embankments is extremely complex. Arching effect is one of the main reasons why the piles with individual caps can support most part of load. Several methods exist for estimating the magnitude of arching occurring in the embankment fill. This paper proposed a new method, based on the homogenization approach, for calculating the arching effect.
