Abstract
To produce a top quality product, technical communicators need to use informal communication channels in addition to those of the formal superior/subordinate hierarchy. Before they can be used, these channels need to be established and maintained. Four skills needed by information workers are defined, the one most often neglected by technical writers is identified, and that skill is defined in detail
