A data management system for mobile terminals

Mobile terminals like smart phones and PDA are more and more popular in recent years. However, the data on them is still managed in a way similar to that for traditional desktop computers. This introduces an obstacle for efficient searching for local data, synchronizing data with other terminals and computers, and better supporting of third-party applications. In this paper, we introduce the mobile data repository (MDR), a unified data management system on mobile terminals to address these issues. We start with the overall architecture of the MDR, which is followed with some specific design issues like query, schema, and transactions and concurrencies.
